The Gardens at Heather Farm

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Through this residency program we aim to support the creation of innovative and transformative artworks that:

  • Furthers the resident’s practice and the interplay between their practice and the natural world

  • Enhances the visitor experience through interaction with art and artists

  • Enrich/ enliven/ activate The Garden landscapes with projects  or performances of durability appropriate to the lifespan of the work

  • Engage the local community in Walnut Creek and Central Contra Costa County and contribute to the exchange of ideas within and beyond the Bay Area on issues of conservation and our connection to nature.

We look to the artists to propose how to best engage with the garden and the public over the course of their residency. There is no minimum duration for a residency; projects may take place at any time throughout the course of a 1-3 month time frame.  We encourage artists who are interested in studying our plant collection and responding to the natural setting and recommend visiting The Gardens before submitting.
